When students complete part one of their program journey, they become eligible for our six-month mentorship experience called "Ascend." While developing a personalized "life plan" is essential, having the support system for putting it into action is just as crucial. That is why through "Ascend," we assign students an online mentor, an online peer group, and digital programming that allows them to grow their "toolbox" of mental skills and exercises. To ensure students experience higher engagement and long-term benefits, each peer group consists of no more than four students.
what's included with ascend?
Students meet with their assigned mentor and peer group on the first and third week of each month for 90 minutes via Zoom. Each week of a discovery session, a link to the digital materials needed to participate is sent to the student and their parent/guardian via email.
1:1 support Calls
Students must schedule a 1:1 support call with their mentor at least once a month. This effort helps the mentor build trust and strengthen relationships with students, and ensure that student stay on track with the goals and action steps they've set for themselves.
Students who'd like to stay engaged with ForeverU after they complete "Ascend" are eligible to apply as a peer mentor. If selected as a peer mentor, the student is assigned a new online mentor and online peer group and may then serve as a co-leader.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does Ascend cost to participate?
Ascend is free for students, thanks to our generous donors and supporters. Still, we allow parents/guardians to make an optional one-time or recurring donation to ForeverU at the confirmation screen after registration.
Is there a participation or attendance requirement?
If a student misses more than (3) sessions, they may not be eligible to apply as a “Peer Mentor”.
Where do the discovery sessions take place?
The monthly sessions take place on Zoom. A link to access the sessions will be sent out via email the week of each session. Once you click on the link, you will be re-directed to Zoom.
What time of day do these monthly sessions take place?
Sessions take place on the first and third week of each month for 90 minutes. However, the day and time of when your sessions take place will be decided by your assigned mentor.
Do I need any materials or supplies to participate?
Yes. All digital materials needed to participate are sent out via email the week of each session.
How do I ensure I have a quality online experience at each session?
Ensure that you have a strong internet connection, use the Google Chrome web browser, and keep yourself muted when you're not speaking. But most importantly, take responsibility for your own learning and look at this as an opportunity to invest in yourself.
How do you engage parents with a student's ForeverU experience?
Helping a student thrive in our program is a team effort. Each month, we email parents/guardians an action-plan newsletter that explains in detail what their child is learning and practical steps they can take as a parent to continue their child's momentum at home.
Parents/guardians will also have access to a private blog monitored by ForeverU's program advisory committee members. This blog creates a safe space for parents to ask questions, receive insightful feedback from blog contributors, and find support on their parenting journey.
What if I miss one of the sessions, can I still access a recording?
To protect registered students' privacy and safety, recordings of each session will not be available for viewing after the workshop.
Does my camera have to be on during each session?
To ensure all students feel comfortable during each session, we do require all students to have their cameras on at all times.
Will I have access to my mentor outside of our online sessions?
All students are required to schedule a one-on-one support call with their assigned mentor at least once per month. This is a critical component of your ForeverU experience.
How many students participate in each peer group?
Research shows us that students experience higher engagement and long-term benefits in a small group setting. Each peer group consists of no more than 4 students.
What if I'm not enjoying my mentor or assigned peer group?
If you are not enjoying your ForeverU experience, please notify us. We would be more than happy to try finding you a new mentor or peer group that meets your needs.
What happens at the end of the six months?
At the end of the six months, you will be invited to continue your ForeverU journey by continuing to attend "Camp Apex" or applying as a "Peer Mentor" in Ascend.
What does it mean to become a Peer Mentor?
If a student enjoyed their six months in Ascend, they are more than welcome to repeat the mentorship experience and request another peer group and mentor. However, once they complete Ascend, they are eligible to apply as a "Peer Mentor". As a Peer Mentor, they will be assigned a new mentor and peer group and serve as a co-leader. This allows student to stay connected with ForeverU for the remainder of their high school career and allows them to pass along their new knowledge to other students.
Do you have in-person groups?
Students who live near Will County have additional access to our in-person Ascend Community Group that meets on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm in New Lenox, IL. As we continue to reach more youth in other locations through Ascend Online Mentorship, we plan to offer more in-person community groups in other areas.
